Don't put your umbrellas away just yet.
Environment Canada upgraded a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, and parts of Middlesex and Elgin counties to a rainfall warning Friday morning.
A severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for the region, with the weather agency warning of possible damaging winds up to 90 kilometres per hour and heavy downpours.
Environment Canada said close to 100 millimetres of rain has been reported in the Windsor-area as of 8 a.m. Friday morning.
Forecasters said there may be breaks in precipitation at times but heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue into Friday evening.
Heavy downpours could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding is also possible in low-lying areas, according to Environment Canada.
Areas such as London, Parkhill, eastern Middlesex County, St. Thomas, and eastern Elgin County remain under a special weather statement. The weather agency said some areas could get 30-55 millimetres of heavy rain on Friday and through the day on Saturday.
Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm watches and warnings for most of southwestern Ontario on Thursday after a line of thunderstorms swept through the region. A tornado warning was also issued for St. Thomas and Elgin County, however, it is not known if any twisters touched down before the storms moved on.
