UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms sweep through region

It was a stormy afternoon in southwestern Ontario.

A line of thunderstorms swept through the region on Thursday afternoon, leading to severe thunderstorm warnings being issued for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, Oxford County, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex. A tornado warning was issued for St. Thomas and Elgin County. It's not known if any twisters touched down before the storms moved on.

In addition to the rain and wind, the storms also brought a steep drop in temperature as they arrived. In London, the temperature fell from 28 C to 19 C in a matter of minutes.

All of the warnings and watches were lifted before 4:30 p.m.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that residents go inside if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorms may cause loose objects to be thrown around, tree branches to break, and water pooling on roadways.
