Traffic stop leads to drug and weapons charges
While on duty, officers observed a vehicle they deemed to be suspicious and initiated a traffic stop on Grand Avenue in Chatham.
During the investigation, the passenger in the vehicle provided police with a false name. Eventually, officers arrested two males and searched inside the vehicle. A gun, magazine, ammunition, and drugs were obtained by police and numerous charges were laid.
Both men have been charged with police obstruction, two counts of breach of probation, two counts of breach of probation order, (firearm) five counts of firearms charges, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Both suspects were taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.
Inebriated male arrested for being confrontational in public
Police were called early Sunday morning to respond to a male who was reportedly yelling and combative at others in downtown Chatham.
Officers located the suspect on along King Street and determined that he was intoxicated. The man was arrested, taken to police headquarters, and released once sober.
Police see an increase in deer-related vehicle collisions
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is advising motorists to be aware of their surroundings while driving in the early morning, and evening hours.
With the beginning of crop harvesting, police have responded to an increase in vehicle collisions involving deer.
Drivers are reminded to scan the road ahead and be prepared for the possibility of more than one deer crossing even if only one is observed.
