A Windsor man convicted of trying to run over his friend with his vehicle in Chatham is going to jail.
Andrew Herdman, 33, pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to comply with court bail conditions on August 4, 2020 and has been sentenced to 324 days behind bars. Herdman also received 24 months of probation and is banned from owning or having weapons for 10 years. Herdman was also sentenced to 30 days for breaching his release conditions in April. He was given 208 days of credit for time already served.
Herdman was originally charged with attempted murder after driving his vehicle into a friend in Chatham on September 21, 2019. Chatham-Kent police said the victim was struck on Harvey Street at around 4 a.m. that day and Herdman failed to remain at the scene.
The victim was rushed to a Windsor hospital and treated for a severe concussion.
