A popular convenience store in Chatham will be closed for up to two weeks after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
In an emailed statement to Blackburn News on Monday, a representative for 7-Eleven Canada confirmed that the 7-Eleven on Grand Avenue West will be shut down for the time being to "thoroughly clean and sanitize the location."
"Any customers who may have visited the store between July 20 – August 2, 2020 can call 811 for health guidance and information on actions you can take to protect yourself and others," stated the release
It adds that all store employees have been asked to self-isolate with pay for 14 days. The store is expected to re-open on or before August 15.
"The health and safety of our customers, employees and the communities we serve is the top priority for 7-Eleven Canada. "
However, CK Public Health issued a statement early Monday morning implying that the closure was voluntary.
"Contrary to accounts on social media, CK Public Health did not order the 7- Eleven convenience store at 10 Grand Avenue West in Chatham to be closed," read the release.
The statement goes on to say that the risk to the Chatham-Kent community remains low and that any close contacts of COVID-19 patients are directly contacted by CK Public Health and given further instructions.
Anyone who begins to experience symptoms of COVID-19 is reminded to self-isolate and schedule an appointment for testing at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre.
