The Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall for thousands of Lincoln SUVs due to an issue with the 16-way seat wiring.
The automaker has identified over 24,000 Lincoln MKX and Nautilus vehicles sold in North America, over 4,200 of them sold in Canada. Ford said there might be insufficient clearance in the affected SUVs between the driver and/or front passenger seat wiring harness and the seat cushion pan, which can cause abrasion in the wiring harness.
If there is damage to some of the wires in the harness due to contact with the seat cushion frame, the airbag system may not work correctly should a collision occur, increasing the risk of injury.
There have been no reported injuries due to this defect. The affected vehicles were built at the assembly plant in Oakville between November 2014 and January 2020, and cover the 2016 to 2020 model years.
Affected owners will receive a recall notice. Dealers will, at no charge, install flocking tape on the exposed edge of the 16-way seat cushion frames, inspect the wire harness, and repair or replace as needed.
