Team mobilized to test Lambton migrant workers

Migrant workers in Lambton County are being tested for COVID-19 starting Monday.

A team of Bluewater Health staff and others are part of a mobile unit that is visiting four farms for on-site testing.

The team has members who speak Spanish.

Bluewater Health Communications Chief Julia Oosterman said it's a very strategic approach to eliminate as many barriers as possible like transportation, testing reluctance, and language.

She said the Lambton response is very timely given the increased positive cases among migrant workers in other parts of the region. In fact, over the weekend more than 180-agri-food workers in Windsor-Essex tested positive.

The migrant worker mobile assessment clinics are a collaborative effort of Bluewater Health, Lambton Public Health, Lambton EMS, and the Central Lambton Family Health Team.
