The latest federal figures show that over 90 per cent of new COVID-19 cases across Canada in the last 14 days originated in Ontario and Quebec.
The most recent epidemiological studies show that Canada could have upwards of 107,000 cases by June 15 and up to 9,400 deaths.
Other parts of Canada, like Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories, and the Yukon have not had any community transmission in the last 14 days. Nunavut has had no confirmed cases to date.
For the last two weeks, the reproduction rate of the disease has been trending close to one.
"We will need to keep the Rt [reproduction rate] consistently below one for more than three weeks before we can be sure that our public health measures are effectively controlling the epidemic," said Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam.
To keep the epidemic under control, Tam said the country will need to strengthen public health measures as the economy starts to gradually reopen.
