COVID-19 forces cancellation of Comber Fair

A 160-year-old tradition in the community of Comber has been upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comber Agricultural Society President Ian Pearce announced the cancellation of the Comber Fair on Monday. The 161st edition of the event was scheduled to be held on August 7-9.

Pearce said the decision to cancel the fair was made following consultation with health officials and in accordance with recommendations from the province.

"Nothing is more important than the safety of our guests and volunteers," Pearce said in a written statement. "We understand the emotional sentiment that goes along with our fair and the sense of loss that comes with this cancellation."

The next Comber Fair will now take place in 2021 on August 13-15.

The Comber Fair has been an annual event for the Lakeshore community since 1850.
