Woman accused of kicking police officer

A 38-year-old Chatham woman is facing a pair of assault charges after allegedly hitting a family member and a local police officer early Monday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to a home in Chatham at around 5:30 a.m. Monday and learned that the woman had allegedly assaulted a family member in the home.

Police said the woman then allegedly kicked an officer when she was being arrested.

The accused was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer. The accused was later released pending a future court date.

Counterfeit cash investigation ongoing

Police have made an arrest, but they're also looking for more information as they continue to investigate six incidents where counterfeit money was used in Chatham-Kent.

So far, a 46-year-old Moraviantown man has been arrested and charged in connection with one incident where a purchase was made in Chatham using a counterfeit US $100 bill.

Investigators said they are still looking into the remaining five incidents and they are urging anyone with information regarding US $20, $50, or $100 bills to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Officers are also reminding businesses to inspect money they believe looks suspicious before accepting it as payment.

Another CRA scam

Chatham-Kent police are warning the public about another CRA scam that's making the rounds.

Police said if you see an email that looks similar to the one below, don't click the link -- delete the email immediately:

  • Dear customer,
  • Canada Revenue Agency has sent you an INTERAC e-Transfer (previously INTERAC Email Money Transfer).
  • You have a tax refund of $458.00 (CAD) waiting from your previous revenue records.
  • Expiry Date: 29 March, 2020
  • Action Required: To deposit your money, click here: http://cra-canada-support-tax.loveyourvaca.com/
