Finding ways to entertain oneself while practicing social distancing or isolation due to COVID-19 may be a challenge, but a virtual library may provide an escape residents want to check-out.
The Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) has a virtual option for people to browse eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics, movies, and TV shows. There are also kid-friendly options on TumbleBooks, which has graphic novels and puzzles.
For history buffs, the Local History Digital Collection includes over 150 resources that focus on "Chatham-Kent's rich history".
A media release from the CKPL also highlights an arts and crafts database called "Creativebug". As well, there are online courses that go over subjects such as business, tech-software, graphic design, and test preparation.
Residents who don't already have a library card can obtain a virtual card by applying online.
All branches of the CKPL are closed until April 6.
Items that were checked out prior to the closure will have extended due dates and overdue fines will not apply. Library card expiry dates will also be extended.
Update: On April 3, the CKPL extended the closure of its branches and cancelled all planned programs -- including the tax clinics.
