A possible salmonella contamination has prompted a recall of President’s Choice brand coleslaw.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled the 397 gram bags of coleslaw, with a best before date of December 4, 2019. The products with UPC code 0 60383 22267 3 were sold in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
Anyone with the coleslaw in their refrigerator is being told to either toss it into the garbage or return it to the store where it was purchased.
The CFIA is now conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
So far, no one has reported getting sick from eating the recalled coleslaw.
