Two Chatham-Kent paramedics have been recognized for their years of exemplary service.
Robert Belleghem and Michael Gazo were given Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medals at a ceremony at Queen’s Park in Toronto on Thursday.
Belleghem received a medal for his 30 years of service and Gazo received his medal for 40 years of service.
The medals specifically recognize those in high-risk professions in Canada.
"Chatham-Kent EMS and Medavie Health Services is incredibly proud of the well-deserved recognition each of these paramedics has received with the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal,” said Donald MacLellan, general manager Chatham-Kent EMS in a statement. “As paramedics with Chatham-Kent EMS, they have dedicated their careers to helping the people of Chatham-Kent when they need it most. On behalf of all of our staff, I would like to congratulate and thank them for the unwavering commitment to care that they demonstrate on a daily basis.”
Service medals are given to police, firefighters, corrections officers, coast guard members and peace officers. The Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal was created in 1994. Paramedics who receive the award are first nominated by their peers or the public and have at least 20 years of service under their belt.
