Chatham-Kent residents will get another chance to hear an update on the Lake Erie Shoreline Study.
The next round of the Lake Erie Shoreline Study community meetings will take place later this month in Erieau. The first round of meetings drew such a large crowd in April, that people had to be turned away at the door and wait for the next session.
According to Bruce McAllister, director of planning services, the municipality is urging people to pre-register for this round of meetings to guarantee they get a spot.
"We're asking if people could please call our customer service desk just to pre-register. We want to ensure there's enough space for everybody that can get in," said McAllister. "Then we can kind of monitor over the next couple of weeks what kind of registration we have and if necessary, adjust some things."
Experts in shoreline hazards, meteorology, climate change and coastal engineering design are undertaking the detailed two-phase study, which looks at the Lake Erie shoreline from Wheatley to Clear Creek and the impact that climate change is having on the shore.
The Lake Erie Study Team has completed the research portion of the work. The meetings this month will share some of that research, including the findings of the erosion and flooding vulnerability assessment. Officials will also share some information on the risk that erosion has on existing buildings and infrastructure in the area.
McAllister said these meetings will also feature a question and answer sessions and an open discussion about what adaptation strategies are needed for the area to become more resilient against the threats of erosion.
"It will be more interactive than the last session," explained McAllister. "It was more of an information session last time. It will be a little bit of both this time around."
The sessions will be held as follows at Erieau Fire Station #14, 780 Ross Lane, Erieau.
• Wednesday, June 19. First session from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Second session from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Thursday, June 20. First session from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Second session from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
