Suspected thief turns up to 'claim' seized hockey net

Chatham-Kent police have made one arrest and they are looking for a second suspect after two men were allegedly caught with a stolen hockey net in Chatham.

Police said the case started when an officer on general patrol spotted two men in a parking lot on Park Avenue East trying to load a hockey net onto the roof of a minivan early in the morning on April 23.

The officer was able to identify the men and seized the net pending further investigation.

Police said as a result of the investigation, the officer learned that the net, worth about $300, had been stolen from a residence in Chatham.

A 27-year-old man from Richmond Street in Chatham was later charged with theft and possession of stolen property on Tuesday when he allegedly showed up at police headquarters and tried to "claim" the hockey net that the officer had taken away.

Police are still working to track down a second suspect in connection with the case.
