Flood watch issued for Erieau

Residents in Erieau may experience flooding as rising water levels and wind levels continue for the western end of Lake Erie.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued a flood watch for the area Monday evening, with properties on the bay side of Erieau being the most likely to be affected.  The conservation authority said those properties already have water on the lots. The region has already received around 5 millimetres of rainfall during the day as well.

Strong sustained winds above 40 km/hr from the north and east have cause elevated water levels in Lake Erie, which could still climb five to 10 centimetres with winds remaining strong overnight Monday and into Tuesday.

The conservation authority is advising residents to avoid the shoreline due to potentially dangerous conditions.
