CK police renew appeal for witnesses of fatal train crash

Chatham-Kent police are putting out another call for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a fatal train crash in Chatham.

Police previously said a 54-year-old Chatham woman who was heading south on Keil Drive in a white SUV at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday was involved in a crash with a VIA Rail train and later died from her injuries in the hospital.

Investigators are hoping to speak with all of the motorists who were stopped at the railway crossing at the time of the collision.

Police said their initial investigation showed the vehicle was crossing the railway tracks when it was hit by the train, which was heading east.

Witnesses are asked to contact Constable Dan Carroll at dancar@chatham-kent.ca or call 519-355-1092.
