Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services (CKFES) were able to save $400,000 worth of property following a house fire in Wallaceburg.
A blaze happened around 7 p.m. Saturday night on Gordon Street near Elgin Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found a working fire but were able to contain it to an upper bedroom.
According to a press release sent out by CKFES, an offensive attack was able to knock the fire down quickly.
The fire caused an estimated $80,000 in damage while around $400,000 worth of property was able to be saved. The cause is being reported as accidental.
The fire was a chance for CKFES to remind people of the importance of fire alarm maintenance.
"Smoke alarms save lives," officials said the release. "Install working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas and test them monthly. If battery operated, replace the battery twice annually when you change your clocks."
