Sobey's theft leads to charges

Friday morning a man entered the Sobey's on Park Avenue in Chatham.

While in the store, the man stuffed $95 worth of fruit and packages of sirloin into a backpack. He then left the store without paying for the items.

Police were called and they located the man shortly after. While searching him, officers also found drugs in his possession.

The 53-year-old Chatham man is facing charges of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained in a crime and possession of a controlled substance.

He is being held at police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

-------- Woman arrested on warrants

In early December a woman from Wallaceburg was released from police custody with the condition of appearing at a court date on December 18. She did not show up for the court date and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Yesterday at 2 p.m. the 32-year-old woman was located in Wallaceburg and arrested on the warrant for failing to attend court.

She was transported to the police station and later released with a future court date.

In October of 2018 police issued a warrant for a 30-year-old Wallaceburg man for three counts of fraud under $5,000

Friday afternoon the man was located in Wallaceburg and arrested. He was transported to the police station and later released with a future court date.

Drunk man charged

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, a drunk 23-year-old Morpeth man was located on King Street West in Chatham.

He was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. The man was transported to police headquarters because he was unable to care for himself. He was released when sober.

-------- Trespassing man faces charges

Early Friday evening a man was was seen in a building on Grand Avenue West, due to a previous incident the man was not supposed to be on the property.

Police were called and the man was stopped by an officer around 7 p.m. Further investigation showed the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The 35-year-old man from Chatham was arrested and is being held at police headquarters for a bail hearing.
