Pro/Am Golf Tournament Raises $53K For Heart Monitors

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance should have some new heart monitors soon thanks to some generous donors at a recent fundraising golf tournament.

A release from the Foundation of CKHA says its 13th Annual Pro/Am Golf tournament on August 10 raised a little over $53,500 to help fund the purchase of some new cardiac Holter monitors for the hospitals in Chatham and Wallaceburg.

"On behalf of the Foundation of CKHA and our Board of Directors, I want to say how thankful we are to our loyal supporters, as well as our new partners who joined us for a wonderful day of golf this year," said Mary Lou Crowley, Executive Director, Foundation of CKHA in a release. "Your support has made a profound impact on health care in our community by helping the hospital purchase cardiac Holter monitors, which are very much in demand in Chatham-Kent."

The release from the Foundation of CKHA says a Holter monitor is "a battery-operated, portable device that measures and records the heart’s activity continuously over a period of time."

That information allows doctors to evaluate the heart's activity over an extended period of time and can help them provide better recommendations that may help to avoid heart attacks or strokes.

"With an aging population in Chatham-Kent, good heart health is integral to the overall well-being of our community," said Crowley. "We are delighted to be able to raise these funds, which help ensure the high level of health care residents of Chatham-Kent have come to expect of their local hospital continues long into the future."
