A local Progressive Conservative MPP says the response to his election campaign has been "overwhelmingly positive."
Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls explains some of the key issues he wants to address with his platform.
"We want to clean up the hydro mess that's going on right now. People are paying way too much money. We get in and we will clean that mess up," says Nicholls. "I get calls all the time, people saying that they just don't have enough money to pay for their bills. Our plans will be to put more money back into their pockets."
Nicholls says it is also important to restore responsibility, accountability, and trust in the government.
"People with questions and issues can come to us and we'll be very open and transparent with them," he says.
Nicholls also points out that the region has lost over 15,000 manufacturing jobs since 2003. His goal is to work hard to bring back good paying jobs to the area.
"The last thing would be what I call the 'Hallway Healthcare' where in fact you have people that sit for hours, if not days, in hallways because there are no beds in our hospitals," he says. "We have to end that."
Nicholls says he is "extremely pleased" with the response he's been getting from residents about his campaign. He says the grand opening for his campaign office was held at Thames Lea Plaza Friday night.
"We had just a tremendous outpouring of support and volunteers coming to our office. They, like me, can't wait for change to occur in the province of Ontario," he says.
Nicholls says his riding has been expanded to take in Peelee Island, Comber, Stoney Point, Lighthouse Cove, and a small area north of Chatham called St. Clair Estates.
