Upgrades to busy intersection put on hold

A total of $1.8 million in potential upgrades to the Queen’s Line and Merlin Road intersection has been pushed to budget deliberations.

The Chatham-Kent transportation division brought the idea in front of city council on Monday where it was met with zero opposition.

Councillor Bryon Fluker was vocal about how impressed he was with the motion and strongly supported the idea of left turn lanes instead of a roundabout.

Because Chatham-Kent council is currently in a lame duck position, their say in financial decisions is limited. A project with such a hefty price tag will have to wait until after the new council gets sworn in before it can be finalized.

Budget deliberations will take place in early 2019.
