Christmas hamper registration open at CK Salvation Army locations

Registration for the Salvation Army’s Christmas hamper program is now open.

Karen Holland, a captain with The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries, said the program helps everyone have a merry Christmas.

“It’s for people who need assistance over Christmas,” said Holland. “With a food hamper and toys for the children.”

Holland called it a “significant” hamper.

“It’s basically everything you need for Christmas dinner, and lots of extras,” said Holland. The hamper includes vegetables, and either a turkey or a ham.

Last year, more than 800 people were hamper recipients in Chatham-Kent. Proof of income and identification for all household members is required to register at any of the three Chatham-Kent Salvation Army locations.

The organization is looking for monetary donations to help fill the hampers.

“We’re always looking for food to replenish our food bank shelves,” said Holland, "But for the Christmas hampers the products are ordered so each hamper is the same."

Monetary donations can come through the kettle or letter campaigns, or by contacting the Salvation Army in your area.

Registration is open until November 30, 2018.
