Public School Board Committed To Indigenous Education

The Lambton Kent District School Board says it remains committed to serving the Indigenous community despite the provincial government's cancellation of curriculum writing sessions this summer.

The sessions were to revise what students learn, with a key component geared to the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Board Superintendent of Education Helen Lane says they'll continue to teach Indigenous history, tradition and culture.

"For the most part, LKDSB is committed to supporting the education and understating of Indigenous histories, traditions and culture," she says. "We're really fortunate that we work closely with the First Nation communities in our district and I fully expect that to continue."

Lane says they're reaching out to the local Indigenous community to continue to foster their relationship.
