Alleged Drunk Driving Crash Causes Life Threatening Injuries

Chatham-Kent OPP say a 48-year-old Chatham man is charged with drunk driving and a woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after a crash just north of Chatham early Sunday morning.

Police say at around 12am Sunday, a vehicle hit a water truck that was parked near the construction zone on Eberts Line close to St. Clair Rd.

Officers say the female passenger of the vehicle that hit the water truck was taken to the hospital in Chatham with life threatening injuries.

There is no word on whether the driver of the vehicle was hurt, but he was taken to police headquarters for further testing after an officer at the scene allegedly determined he had been drinking alcohol.

As a result of those tests, a 48-year-old man is charged with driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 mg of alcohol in his blood. He's set to appear in court early next month to answer to the charge.
