Suspect Arrested After Taxi Cab Robbery

Chatham-Kent police have made an arrest after a taxi driver was robbed back in February.

According to previously published police reports, a Courtesy Cab driver was approached by a man at around 6am on February 25 at a bus shelter on Pine St. in Chatham and later assaulted by the man, who also demanded money.

Police say the man didn't get any money, though, and ran away from the scene. The cab driver was treated for two deep cuts to his hand.

Officers say they were able to identify a suspect after some evidence they collected from the scene hit a match at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in May.

Officers say the DNA profile that was generated at the centre matched that of a 51-year-old Chatham man.

Police found the man early Friday morning, arrested him, and charged him with robbery.

He has since been released with conditions and a future court date.
