Construction will get underway soon on a new casino at the former Wheels Inn site in Chatham.
Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited will be holding a ground-breaking ceremony for a $36-million "Cascades Casino" on Thursday at 10am at 615 Richmond St.
Cascades Casino will be Gateway’s first new build in Ontario and is expected to create up to 200 new jobs in Chatham.
The site plan for the 45,280 sq ft casino was unanimously approved by council in April.
The proposed casino will feature over 300 slots and ten table games, with two of Gateway’s signature restaurant brands -- MATCH Eatery & Public House and The Buffet.
Gateway CEO Tony Santo previously told BlackburnNewsCK.com that the casino has an expected completion date of mid-2019.
While the construction of Cascades Casino is underway, the slots facility at Gateway Casinos Dresden will continue to operate as normal until the new casino in Chatham is opened.
Santo will be joined by Gateway Casinos Dresden General Manager Damien De Roux at the ground-breaking ceremony, along with Ontario Lottery and Gaming officials and Chatham-Kent's Mayor Randy Hope.
