Walk For Alzheimer Society of CK Goes For 23rd Year

Several residents are showing support for those affected by Alzheimer's during their annual walk in Chatham this weekend.

The Investor's Group Walk for Alzheimer's is scheduled for June 9 starting at 9:30am. The annual event for the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent (ASCK) is now in its 23rd year.

"We try to raise awareness [and funds] for our programs and services, as well as end the stigma that surrounds dementia," says organizer Crystal Dama.

Participants are walking through Tecumseh Park. Dama says the event will also include live entertainment and prizes.

"For walkers who raise $50 and over, you will get a free official 2018 walk t-shirt, we're handing out free bandannas, and you also have an opportunity to win door prizes," she says.

Linda Gibbs, fund development coordinator and ASCK ambassador, says the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent has gone above and beyond in providing care for her mother.

"She has been enrolled with them as an in-home visitation patient and she's provided with a specially trained PSW," says Gibbs. "Since her visits she has kept my mother happy, responsive, and engaged."

"It is with great pride that I'll be walking for my mother and she will be 93 this month."

For more about the walk, visit their Facebook page or call Dama at 519-352-1043. People can also register Saturday morning before the walk.

Dama says money raised stays in Chatham-Kent and will go towards services provided at the organization.
