Flags at Ontario government offices and agencies will fly at half-mast Saturday to mark the National Day of Mourning for those injured and killed on the job.
This year, they will remember a 24-year-old Chatham-Kent man who died in an accident at Prestressed Systems Inc. earlier this month. The Ministry of Labour is still investigating the death of Michael Cobb and the serious injury of a fellow worker on April 12. The investigation could take months.
The Ministry of Labour has ordered the company to submit a report on the equipment Cobb was using. It will then decide whether to lay charges and if Prestressed Systems is found guilty, it may have to pay a fine.
The last time a worker died on the job in Windsor-Essex was in November 2016 when 51-year-old Dino Trombley was struck by a steel beam at R.J. Cyr Company. He left behind a wife and five children.
The bill to lower flags at provincial government offices was introduced by Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield and passed in the Ontario Legislature in June 2016.
