Wet Weekend Underway In Chatham and Windsor

Environment Canada says Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex will be hit with heavy rainfall this weekend.

A rainfall warning has been issued for Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex.

According to the weather agency, the significant rain on Saturday will change to freezing rain later in the afternoon.

Another round of heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms is expected again later on Sunday.

Total rainfall amounts for the weekend may be in the 30 to 40mm range with localized amounts near 50mm.

Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.

A freezing rain warning was also in effect for Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada says a period of freezing rain is expected late Saturday afternoon into the evening.

The weather agency says several hours of freezing rain are likely before it changes to normal rain on Sunday.

Residents are warned that surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Utility outages may also occur.

These warnings will be updated as necessary.
