Wheatley Teen Charged After OPP Officer Assaulted

A 17-year-old from Wheatley is facing some serious charges after an incident in a parking lot in Leamington.

Essex County OPP say they arrested the youth after getting reports of an erratic driver throwing beer bottles out of a vehicle while it was on Erie St. S in Leamington at around 6pm Saturday.

Officers say they found a red GMC pickup truck that fit the description of the report parked in a parking lot with two people inside.

Police say they spoke to the driver, who appeared to be impaired, and they also spotted some empty beer bottles in the cab of the vehicle.

Investigators say when the officers tried to arrest the driver, he resisted arrest and assaulted one of them.

A 17-year-old Wheatley youth has been arrested and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest.
