Appeal For Witnesses, Video After Arrest In Chatham

The province's police watchdog is asking for anyone who may have seen an arrest on Park Ave. E in Chatham late Saturday night to come forward.

The appeal from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) comes a few days after an investigation was opened into an arrest involving Chatham-Kent OPP and a 24-year-old woman.

SIU officials say the woman was arrested close to midnight on March 10 after she was pulled over by an OPP officer on Park Ave. just south of Lacroix St.

Investigators say at that time, there was "an interaction" with police, adding that the woman was arrested at the scene and diagnosed with serious injuries at the hospital shortly after she was released from the police station.

The SIU has assigned two investigators and one forensic investigator to the case. The actions of two officers are under scrutiny -- four witness officers have also been designated for the investigation.

Anyone who may have information about the investigation is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. You can also submit video evidence related to the incident through the SIU website.
