Stephen Hawking Dies At Age 76

World–renowned scientist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.

According to BBC News, a spokesperson for Hawking's family has confirmed the passing of the English theoretical physicist. The cause of his death has not yet been released.

Hawking had a slow-progressing form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that gradually paralysed him. Hawking continued to communicate with single cheek muscle attached to a speech-generating device.

Hawking was a former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and author of A Brief History of Time which was an international bestseller

Regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Einstein, Hawking's scientific works included gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation. He was also the first come up with a theory of cosmology, which he explained by joining the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.
