Hayden Fowler scored two goals late in the game to put the Erie Otters over the Windsor Spitfires.
The second goal was in overtime for a 4-3 Erie win over the Spitfires at Erie Insurance Arena Saturday night.
Despite Windsor getting a point in the OHL Western Conference standings, they needed a win to overtake the Saginaw Spirit for sixth place. They remain in the seventh position, tied with the Spirit, who lost to Owen Sound.
Curtis Douglas gave the Spits an early lead with his 22nd goal of the season, at 4:16 in the opening period.
Windsor doubled their lead in the middle of the second frame when Lev Starikov found the net. Erie cut the lead in half later in the period with a goal from Troy Lajeunesse.
Cole Purboo gave Windsor a two-goal lead again at 3:08 in the final period, his 19th of the year. The Otters fought back in regulation with back-to-back scores. Kyle Maksimovich put the puck in at 10:33, then Fowler tied the game with eight seconds left in the period, after goalie Daniel Murphy was pulled during a power play for a six-on-four advantage.
Fowler's winner came at 39 seconds into the extra frame.
Michael DiPietro stopped 24 shots in goal for Windsor in the loss. Murphy ended up with 15 saves.
There's a quick turnaround for the Spitfires as they travel to Niagara for a Sunday matinee against the IceDogs.
