A dog in Chatham has been deemed potentially dangerous under the municipality’s Responsible Animal Ownership Bylaw.
Animal Control Services says a Saint Bernard mix attacked its owner's roommate on Timothy Cres. on Monday around 12:30pm. The victim went to hospital but the extent of injuries is not known.
Under the bylaw, the potentially dangerous dog may have several conditions imposed to address the danger, including being contained in an enclosure or fenced area or restrained by a chain or other restraint sufficient to prevent the dog from leaving the premises, if it's outside.
The bylaw also requires the owner to post a warning sign at the front door clearly warning of the presence of a potentially dangerous dog.
It's unclear if the dog has a microchip.
The owner may appeal the order or decision and may request a hearing but it's also not clear if that's been done.
