If you're a nurse looking for work in Chatham-Kent, now is the time to apply.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) held a nursing job fair on Tuesday at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre.
Lisa Northcott, CKHA Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive, says the organization has been holding the nursing job fair for the past four years.
"We think it's really important for people to have that personal touch," says Northcott. "[It's] for applicants to come out and meet some of our front-line managers and our front-line staff, learn about what it's like to work at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, and to really get a good understanding of some of the opportunities that we have available."
Northcott says every program had a booth set up at the fair. She says managers and nurses were at each booth to answer questions and give a "flavour" of what CKHA is all about.
According to Northcott, CKHA is currently looking for Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners.
"We have several openings in almost every program that we offer at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Currently, I think we have 13 part-time positions available and we foresee some full-time positions becoming available in the near future," she says.
Although the organization is hiring nurses, CKHA announced plans last summer to cut around 26 full-time positions and 15 part-time positions in the 2017/2018 fiscal year.
"We did have a loss of some positions at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, but none of those resulted in anyone having to leave the organization. We were able to do it through what we call 'attrition'--so retirements and a natural turnover," explains Northcott. "We do have a yearly natural turnover rate, so we always have nursing jobs available."
Northcott, who has worked at CKHA for 30 years, says she thinks the organization is a great place to work.
