Early Morning Stunt Driving On Hwy. 401

A 27-year-old Chatham woman is charged with stunt driving after OPP pulled over a vehicle on the Hwy. 401 that was recorded going more than 60 km/h over the speed limit.

Police say the vehicle was registered going faster than 160 km/h on the westbound Hwy. 401 near Dillon Rd. at around 1am Tuesday.

The driver's licence has been suspended and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

Officers are also using the case to remind drivers that penalties for driving 50 km/h or more over the speed limit include:

- an immediate seven-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment

- a fine of up to $10,000 upon conviction

- up to six months in jail and up to two years licence suspension for a first conviction

- driver's licence suspension of up to ten years for a second conviction within ten years
