Crashes Pile Up On Snow-Covered Roads

Chatham-Kent police and local OPP are both urging drivers to slow down after responding to a higher-than-normal number of crashes on area roadways.

Police from both forces say the poor road and weather conditions were a factor in the high volume of calls they received during Monday's snowstorm.

Chatham-Kent OPP and Chatham-Kent police say they have each responded to more than 20 crashes over the past 24 hours. That doesn't include additional calls for service from motorists who may have slid off the road and called 911 because their vehicle got stuck in the snow.

Officers are reminding the public that "driving too fast for road conditions is the number one cause of winter collisions," adding "if you see snow, go slow."
