Spitfires Stop Skid, Shut Out Flint 1-0

Michael DiPietro turned away all 32 shots he faced as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Flint Firebirds 1-0.

The shutout Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre is the fourth of the season for DiPietro and a franchise-record 12th.

The win ends a five-game losing streak for Windsor, who leapfrog the Saginaw Spirit to regain third place in the OHL West Division with 50 points.

The Spits would only need one goal in the first period to win the game, coming off the stick of Cole Purboo at 3:44, his 15th of the year.

Windsor had one power play chance in the second period, and Flint had two in the third.

Luke Cavallin was strong in goal for the Firebirds, with 35 saves out of 36 attempts.

The Spitfires travel to Sault Ste. Marie Friday night to take on the dominant Greyhounds.
