Trucker Charged After Fuel Spill On Hwy. 401

A 22-year-old Brampton man is charged with careless driving in connection with a crash that caused a large diesel fuel spill in Chatham-Kent Monday morning.

OPP say someone driving a tractor trailer on the eastbound Hwy. 401 near Dillon Rd. lost control of the vehicle at around 2:30am Monday, causing the truck and trailer to jack-knife.

As a result of the crash, a fuel tank broke open, spilling a large amount of diesel fuel spill onto the roadway.

A section of the road in the area of the crash had to be shut down for the emergency response, the cleanup effort from the Ministry of the Environment, and the removal of the vehicle, but the highway has since re-opened to the public.
