Accused Truck Thief Ditches Vehicle In The Snow

A 31-year-old Moraviantown man is facing charges after police say he was caught running away from a stolen pickup truck that got stuck in the snow.

Police say they tracked down the stolen Dodge vehicle after someone on Shewburg Rd. in Ridgetown woke up to the sound of their diesel pickup truck being driven away from their house at around 3:30am Tuesday.

Officers say the owner was able to call police right away and let them know which direction the stolen vehicle was heading. As a result, police say they were able to block off the roadway, causing the driver to go off the road and into the snow.

The driver reportedly ditched the truck and ran away from the scene, but police were able to catch up with him shortly after that.

Officers say a 31-year-old Moraviantown man is now charged with theft and possession of stolen property. He was also taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
