One of Chatham-Kent's bicycle trails is getting recognition from the province.
The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail was recently named an "Ontario Trail of Distinction" by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
As stated in a media release, the waterfront bicycle trail is used by thousands of local residents and stretches out to about 2,100 km.
Genevieve Champagne, active transportation and special events coordinator for the municipality, said Chatham-Kent is becoming more well known for it's trails.
“Cycling brings tourism to Chatham-Kent and every indication is that it will continue,” said Champagne in a statement. “We have terrain which makes it easy for cyclists of all levels, we have beautiful waterfronts and a rural beauty that attracts people."
The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail is one of a handful of trails to receive recognition. The other trails that will receive this honour are: Greenbelt Route, the Trans Canada Trail Ontario, the Bruce Trail, and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Trans Ontario Provincial Trails.
