The owner of Butterfly Bakery is finally realizing a longtime dream thanks to a $5,000 loan from the Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board.
Kristy Jacobs of the planning board says it's their first loan under the "Microlending Program."
Butterfly Bakery at 129 Primrose Lane specializes in diabetic-friendly baked goods and also has old fashioned desserts.
Shelley Bresett of Chatham says Butterfly’s offerings include cheesecakes, pies, tarts, squares, cookies, dessert trays, and cakes for all occasions.
"It's been tremendous because I've waited 15 years for my dream to come true to be able to do this and that was my big concern that I didn't have any access to the funds," says Bresett.
The Microlending Program provides small loans of up to $5,000 to local entrepreneurs who need financial help and may not qualify for products through traditional lending sources.
Bresett says the funds are very much appreciated and going to good use.
"It's been wonderful, I've been able to do my kitchen in the basement, more cards and the ingredients of course to start my bakery and get t-shirts made up," Bresett says.
Bresett says there's a baking void that needs to be filled.
"I have come across many people who have been looking for diabetic baking and when I told them that I did that, they were all excited and wondering how soon I'd be up and running and they'd be able to order," says Bresett.
