A former NHL player is coming to a Chatham theatre in the new year to share his message of hope in an effort to eliminate the stigma around sexual abuse.
Sheldon Kennedy spent eight years in the NHL on teams including the Detroit Red Wings and the Calgary Flames. But he is perhaps known more now, for being a vocal survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of disgraced former junior hockey coach Graham James.
Kennedy chronicled his experiences in his book, Why I Didn’t Say Anything.
Family Service Kent will be hosting an event at the Kiwanis Theatre in Chatham in March 2018 where Kennedy will share his story.
“The mission of our agency is to support, empower and advocate for individuals and communities to reach their full potential," says Executive Director Brad Davis in a media release. "With his compelling personal story of personal trauma and influencing positive change, we believe that Sheldon Kennedy embodies the spirit of what we strive to achieve."
The event will take place on March 22, 2018. Tickets are now on sale and can bought through cktickets.com or at the Chatham-Kent Ticket Box Office. Tickets are $45.
