Christmas Fundraiser Returns To Armouries

Christmas in Muskoka is back.

The annual fundraiser, which is put on by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, got underway Tuesday morning at the Chatham Armouries.

Co-chair Gerri Brown says the trees that people can win are always the biggest draw.

"We have a total of 34 trees that have come in," says Brown. "They are just spectacular, beautifully decorated, some of them with numerous products underneath. There's really something for everyone here."

Attendees can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the trees.

Brown says it's the seventh year for the community event.

"It helps us raise funds to support our Grade 7 students and our high school leaders from Ursuline College, in attending the Muskoka Leadership Camp in the spring of the following year," says Brown.

Brown says their goal is to raise $200 for each student to attend the camp.

"It really is an opportunity for our students to really find out a lot about themselves. They are challenged to reach outside their comfort zone," says Brown. "We hear from parents and students that it's a life changing experience for them."

The public is invited to attend the Seniors Tea on Tuesday afternoon for $5, or the Community Event Friday night, where admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item.

But Brown says many of the events, like Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, are already sold out.
