Luke Boka took a pass and scored with 11 seconds left in overtime as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Kitchener Rangers 6-5 at the WFCU Centre.
The two teams split their home-and-away series for the weekend before the year's biggest crowd, announced at 6,173. The Rangers took Friday's game in Kitchener.
Kitchener outshot the Spitfires in the opening period 11-10, but Windsor's Tyler Angle scored his fourth goal of the season late in the stanza.
Logan Brown continued his offensive contribution to Windsor by scoring two straight goals in the second period, the first on the power play, the second at 13:21. The Rangers responded with back-to-back goals, from Riley Damiani at 15:10 and Kole Sherwood trimming the Spits' lead just 31 seconds later. It didn't take long for captain Aaron Luchuk to extend Windsor's lead to two goals again. His goal came 12 seconds after the Sherwood score for a 4-2 Spitfires lead after 40 minutes of play.
Brown completed a hat trick as the third period got underway to extend Windsor's lead to 5-2. Rangers goalie Luke Richardson was pulled after that goal for backup Chris McGonigle. The Rangers then mounted a comeback with three straight goals of their own. Connor Bunnaman was first followed by a short-handed goal over a minute later from Jake Henderson. Giovanni Vallati tied the game late in the period with his second goal of the year.
Luchuk fed the winning pass to Boka for the game winner.
Michael DiPietro picked up 32 saves in net for the Spitfires. Richardson and McGonigle combined for 36 saves.
The Spitfires return to Thursday night play at home when they welcome the Owen Sound Attack.
