Maurice Thibeault, a Chatham man involved in a $6.1-million Lotto/649 dispute, has hired a lawyer.
Lawyer Steve Pickard, who represents Denise Robertson, says "he received a call late Friday afternoon from Richard Dinham of Mousseau, DeLuca, McPherson, Prince of Windsor saying that he represents Maurice Thibeault." Pickard says they "they exchanged introductions and he confirmed their position."
Robertson was Thibeault's former live-in girlfriend in Chatham and she's seeking half the winnings after Thibeault suddenly moved out of her house September 25 without warning, five days after the draw.
In a sworn affidavit, which was sent to BlackburnNews.com, Robertson says she and Thibeault had been buying lottery tickets together for almost their entire relationship. However, Robertson claims that despite having the winning ticket winning ticket for the lottery draw, Thibeault deceived her and told her they hadn't won.
On September 28, Robertson asked the Superior Court to prevent the proceeds from being distributed. At the time, she said she didn't know where Thibeault was staying, and was afraid he’d leave the country with her half of the winnings.
The lottery proceeds are on hold while the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) reviews the ticket bought in Chatham.
