DuPont Pioneer Supports CK Children's Safety Village

Children in Chatham-Kent are going to be a little bit safer on the farm thanks to DuPont Pioneer.

The business donated $1,304.45 to the Chatham-Kent Children's Safety Village today to support its farm safety programs.

"This money is going to help children attend the safety village. As well, it's going to help with the farm safety program, which is very important [because] there's not enough information out there for children on farms," explains Barb Lovell, who is the executive director of the safety village.

Lovell says the money will help purchase materials for farm safety programs that are offered to Grade 6 students every year.

"This is truly an honour to be considered as one of the charities of choice. For us this is a big deal. Farm safety is definitely one of our biggest issues with being in a rural area and teaching the kids in the community is just so important because they're the ones at risk," she explains.

Lovell says the safety village is hosting a Farm Safety Day Wednesday, August 23 from 10am to 2pm for children aged four to 12 years old.

"We have an ATV accident with a bus. The kids are going to witness just how dangerous ATVs are. The Ontario Federation of ATV clubs are coming down to teach kids about safety of ATVs. We're going to have animal safety, chemical grain safety, and machine safety as well," says Lovell.

Anyone interested can call (519)-360-1270 to register. The cost per child is $5 and includes a hot dog lunch.
