Bridge Replacement To Have Little Impact On Traffic

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent says the upcoming replacement of Thamesville bridge will have minimal impact on traffic during construction.

At Monday night's council meeting, a tender of $7,272,680 was awarded to Facca Incorporated to proceed with the project.

According to the municipality, there will be minimal lane closure and detour of traffic because the new structure will be built adjacent to the existing bridge on Victoria Rd. The road will be open to traffic in both directions for the majority of project, with delays expected during the transition from the existing bridge to the new one.

During the beginning stages, the existing bridge will be used as a detour. For the rest of the project, temporary traffic signals will be installed.

The new bridge will be widened from 9.15 m to 10 m to accommodate more active transportation and modern farm equipment.

While a specific date has not been set for the start of project, the municipality says construction could begin anytime now that the tender has been awarded.  The project is estimated to be completed in December 2018.
