Threshing Festival This Weekend

The Thamesville Threshing Festival is back for another year.

The 42nd annual event starts Friday night with the parade and wraps up on Saturday with fireworks.

"Everything's about celebrating Canada this year," says Chair Ed Pumfrey. "Our Canada 150 birthday is here so we're definitely going with that theme as well. Our parade is all about Canada 150, and then to close it out we have our big Canadian-themed fireworks, which are going to be fantastic."

Pumfrey says thousands of people will descend on the town this weekend.

"It seems like the parade always draws the biggest attendance... maybe even sometimes 10,000 people, depending on whats going on that weekend. The weekend is always well visited, I'd say between 3,000-5,000 on the Saturday as well," he says.

The parade on Friday night starts at 6:30pm, and the fireworks on Saturday night go around 10:15pm.

Pumfrey also says there are a number of activities for families and kids on Saturday.

"We have our annual baby contest, that draws in a lot of people, it's a big hit," he says. "Our annual frog jumping contest, we've been doing that, I think right from the beginning of this thing, 42 years ago, so that's been a wonderful event. We have a new midway this year, we have Campbell Amusements coming this year."
